Stay connected where the signal ends.

YardTrail keeps your hiking Group together — live location, chat, and SOS over a phone-to-phone Mesh. No cell service or internet needed — and the little that reaches the cloud stays encrypted and is never sold.

How it works

Your Group is the network.

01
Form a Group

Create a Group at the trailhead. Peers join with a code and are authenticated before they're trusted.

02
Head out

Phones link into a Bluetooth Mesh. Every Member is a Relay, so range grows with each Peer between you.

03
Stay connected

Location, chat, and SOS flow across the Group for the whole Active Hike — with zero bars of service.

Mesh without internet

Messages hop device to device over Bluetooth. If one Peer can reach another, the whole Group is connected.

Location with freshness

Every position is stamped recent, stale, or lost — you always know how current a Member's dot is.

One-touch SOS

Hold to arm — deliberate by design. An SOS broadcast reaches every Peer the Mesh can touch, no accidental alarms.

Triage view

One glance shows who needs attention first: lost, low battery, off-Trail. Sorted for the Leader, visible to all.

Offline maps & Trails

Download Trails before you go. Browse, drop Waypoints, and navigate your Breadcrumb path with no connection.

Chat that queues

Group chat works offline. Out of range? Messages wait and Relay the moment a Peer reappears.

Safety

Built for the moment it matters.

When someone needs help, seconds and clarity count. SOS is a deliberate, hold-to-arm broadcast — it carries a Member's position and Breadcrumb trail to every reachable Peer, and keeps Relaying until the Leader acknowledges it.

Between emergencies, Triage keeps quiet watch: who's fresh, who's stale, who's drifting off-Trail — before it becomes a problem.

Local-first · Security

Your data stays with you.

YardTrail isn't a cloud service with an offline mode. It's local software — the network is your Group, and the server is your pocket.

Local-first by design

Your location, messages, and Trails live on your device. The core experience works fully offline — no server round-trip required to keep your Group connected.

Shared with your Group only

Your position goes to Members you chose, only while you choose. Never sold, never broadcast to strangers.

Encrypted and authenticated

Group communication is encrypted, and every Peer is authenticated before it's trusted to Relay a single byte.

No tracking-for-profit

No ads, no data resale, no selling your movements. Your trail is yours.

About

Why YardTrail exists.

The best trails are the ones cell towers never reach — and that's exactly where group safety tools stop working. YardTrail started with a simple conviction: the phones already in your Group's pockets are enough to keep everyone connected.

Built in Jamaica — the name nods to home, back a yard — for real hikers, guides, and the people waiting for them to come back.

Who's building it

YardTrail is built by Kerron Hutton — a developer in Jamaica — on one conviction: the phones already in your Group's pockets are enough to keep everyone connected where the towers give out. It started as a prototype to keep a hiking group together with no signal.
